AN EMERGENCY SERVICES exercise is to cause disruption on the N18 over a ten hour period commencing on Wednesday night.

An Garda Síochána, and Fire Services, in collaboration with Clare County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s road maintenance contractor, Colas Joint Venture have planned a training exercise which runs from 8pm on Wednesday (June 29th) until 6am on Thursday (June 30th).

This training exercise will temporarily implement emergency cross-overs and contra flow traffic arrangements required to manage serious incidents on the N18 between Junction 5 at Cratloe and Junction 6 at Bunratty.

Drivers will experience temporary traffic layouts during this time under the management of the emergency services. Minimal disruption to traffic times has been flagged with an advisory 55kph speed limit in place.

Emergency services have put the exercise in place following a series of accidents along this stretch of road in recent months which led to lengthy tailbacks and damage to diverted routes. The N18 is a national road of strategic national importance, providing a direct connection between County Limerick, County Clare, and County Galway, while interconnecting all three regions with Shannon International Airport, which is a growing centre of employment and economic activity.
