EIGHT CLARE clubs have advanced to the second round of the FAI Junior Cup.

Walkovers were received by Shannon Olympic and Avenue Utd to ensure their passage without breaking a sweat, Strand Road were due to play Olympic while Avenue were set to be on the road to face Inter Kenmare.

Clare’s only club to win the FAI Junior Cup, Newmarket Celtic had a dramatic victory over strong opposition. They welcomed Killarney Celtic to Newmarket-on-Fergus, the sides were tied 2-2 following extra time but a penalty shootout victory sends Eoin O’Brien’s side through to the next round.

There was penalty pain for Tulla Utd who lost to Creeves Celtic 5-4 on penalties, Conor McFadden, Adam McNamara, Eanna Culloo and Dan Withycombe all dispatched penalties to the net. It finished 3-3 following extra time with Dara Ryan, Ayoub Aguerram and Eoin Hassett all hitting the target. Coole FC also bowed out on penalties, losing 5-4 to Classic FC after it was 2-2 in normal and extra time.

Lifford AFC had a dramatic win in Kerry, Chuks Obadeyi got the winning goal at the death for the Ennis side who had David Keenan to thank for scoring their earlier two goals versus St Brendan’s.

It took seventy five minutes for Shannon Town Utd to open their account against Bunratty Cratloe, Charlie Morrison converted a penalty on seventy five minutes and they doubled their lead via Ken Buckley. Bunratty Cratloe managed to pull a goal back through Johnny Okuru before the sounding of the final whistle.

Cian Mason got the decisive goal for Shannon Hibs in the second half as they accounted for Kerry premier side, Mastergeeha FC.

Bridge Utd impressed on the road as they bounced back from last weekend’s Premier Division loss to Newmarket Celtic. They put four goals beyond hosts Dromore Utd to advance to the next round.

New signing Colin Smyth scored twice for Fair Green Celtic when they had a 4-2 win against Broadford Utd. Kaylan O’Loughlin and Dean Coughlan also registered goals as the Ennis side sealed their place in the second round draw.

Mountshannon Celtic exited the national competition, losing 1-0 to Rathkeale AFC.
