ST JOSEPH’s Doora/Barefield, Lissycasey and Éire Óg lead the way for honours in the Cusack Cup with Kilrush Shamrocks and Clondegad both managed by Kilmurry Ibrickane men pushing for promotion from the Garry Cup alongside St Breckan’s and Doonbeg.

With five of the seven rounds completed in the race for this season’s willwego.com Cusack Cup, title holders Lissycasey along with St. Joseph’s Doora/Barefield and Éire Óg share top spot.

Doora/Barefield are top on score difference followed by Éire Óg with Lissycasey third, all three have seven points to their name.

Lissycasey drew with Éire Óg on Thursday evening while a share of the spoils was also the result when neighbours Ennnistyon and St Joseph’s Miltown clashed.

Corofin got their first win of the campaign when accounting for Kilmurry Ibrickane, boosting their chances of avoiding the drop to the Garry Cup (Division 2).

Kildysart look to be on the way down to the Garry Cup after they suffered their fourth loss of the campaign when going down to St. Josephs Doora/Barefield. Their fate is not sealed yet but they would need to win their last two remaining games and hope other teams slip up.

Meanwhile, in the Garry Cup, Killrush Shamrocks moved a step closer to the final and promotion to the top tier with a merited win over neighbours Doonbeg, their fifth win from five starts.

Clondegad continued their push for honours with a comfortable win over Wolfe Tones while St Breckan’s did likewise when accounting for O’Currys. The remaining game in this competition saw Naomh Eoin and Kilmihil share the points in Cross.

Eire Og’s strong finish earns a share of the spoils

Éire Óg landed the last four points to earn a share of the spoils with Lissycasey in this Cusack Cup clash on Thursday evening.

After playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half the visitors led by three points at the break when the score was 0-9 to 0-6.

Daire Culligan had landed two two pointers in that first half in which Éire Óg lost centre back Aidan McGrath to injury before the first quarter had elapsed,

In an evenly contested third quarter the sides exchanged points five times before a two pointer from Aaron Fitzgerald and one from Darren O’Brien levelled matters with ten minutes to play.

A good move from Lissycasey ended with Darren Keane putting Aaron Clohessy through for the game’s only goal and when Daire Culligan followed with a point the visitors looked to be heading for victory with a four point lead.

Valuable point for Miltown but Ennistymon finish strong to force draw

St Joseph’s Miltown picked up what may yet prove to be a valuable point in their race to retain Division 1 status as they earned a share of the spoils with Ennistymon.

A lively start to both halves saw the visitors lay the foundation for this draw. They raced 1-2 clear at the start and went on to be a goal in front at the break when the score was 1-4 to 0-4.

They again made the better start when play resumed after the break and at one stage in the second half looked to be on the way to victory when they led by seven points.

However, Ennistymon stormed back and put in a strong final quarter which ended with Joe Concannon landing the levelling score from a free.

St. Joseph’s got off to a great start in this tie at Gurteen, racing 2-0 to 0-0 ahead and they stretched this to 2-6 to 0-1 by the end of the opening quarter.

Kildysart settled and by half time they had rallied to within five points of their hosts with the score at 2-6 o 1-4 at the break., the visitor’s goal having come from Michael Donnellan

They continued to cut into the lead on the resumption and got to within three points of the winners with their second goal coming from midfielder Keith O’Connor.

Doora/Barefield rallied and helped by a penalty goal from Tom McDonald and one from play from Eoghan Thynne they regained the upperhand and went on to record a merited win.

Corofin recorded their first win in this season’s Cusack Cup when they overcame a fancied Kilmurry Ibrickane side in Quilty.

The visitors held a one point advantage at the interval, 1-7 to 1-6 after what was a closely fought opening period. The sides continued to be evenly matched throughout the second half trading scores regularly.

They were level with five minutes to go and the visitors managed to land the last two points to seal victory.

Gearoid Cahill sparkled for the visitors and he caused numerous problems for the home side’s defence. He kicked 0-8, five coming from play on an evening when the winner’s first half goalscorer was teenager Seanán Kirby while defender Cathal Flanagan found the net in the second half.

Joe Campbell fired home both goals for Kilmurry Ibrickane who missed the presence of Caoilfhinn O’Dea who was forced out of the game midway through the opening half through injury.

They got on top from the off and by half time they had a twelve point led when the score was 1-13 to 0-4, Ross Phelan having scored their first half goal.
