LAHINCH’s bathing prohibition and the advisory notice not to swim at White Strand, Miltown Malbay have been lifted.
On Sunday, notices advising the public not to swim at White Strand in Miltown Malbay and the bathing prohibition at Lahinch were lifted. The swimming advisory for White Strand in Doonbeg had been removed on Sunday morning.
Additional investigative sampling of the water was undertaken with advice received by the HSE before Clare County Council lifted the notices.
With the removal of the Red Flag at Lahinch, the Blue Flag returns in its place. The Blue Flag has also been reinstated at White Strand, Miltown Malbay.
Notices had been in place for Lahinch since Wednesday, White Strand Doonbeg since Thursday and White Strand Miltown Malbay since Friday. Elevated levels of bacteria had been detected in the water following routine sampling. The County Council attributed this to run-off from the catchment area following heavy rain.
