ENNIS RESIDENTS have had to deal with โ€œdeplorableโ€ water quality while waiting for mains rehabilitation work to take place.

Ongoing difficulties were referenced by Cllr Paul Murphy (FG) as he spoke of the strain dealt with by residents of Ard na Grรฉine, St Michaelโ€™s Villas and St Flannanโ€™s Terrace regarding their water quality. He urged Irish Water and the Ennis Municipal District to come โ€œto an agreeable compromise in order to facilitate the mains rehabilitation and road reinstatement works between Captain Macโ€™s Cross and Station Cross roundabout that were to be carried out during the Christmas holidays of last yearโ€.

He said, โ€œthe quality of water in some dwellings is deplorable and has led to sickness and malfunctioning of dishwashers and washing machinesโ€.

Discussions have continued between Irish Water and the water services of Clare County Council on the matter.

Acting senior executive engineer in the Ennis MD, Ian Chaplin advised that details relating to the programming, road reinstatement and timing for the works have to be finalised. โ€œEnnis MD would like the works to be scheduled at a time that least inconveniences the public including local residents and commuters along the route as there would have to be road closures and diversions to allow the works to proceedโ€.

Dishwashers have become clogged as a result, Cllr Murphy stated. โ€œThe water can be deplorable at times Iโ€™m told,โ€ the Clarecastle native outlined. โ€œExpensive clothingโ€ has also been destroyed, he highlighted.

Works between Captain Macโ€™s Cross and Station Rd roundabout must proceed, Cllr Pat Daly (FF) stressed. โ€œIt is not good enough for residents, I call on Irish Water to deal with it ASAPโ€.
