Denise Gough as Harper Pitt in Angels in America

IS THERE anything this woman can’t do?

Just weeks after receiving an Olivier Award, Ennis actress Denise Gough has been nominated for a prestigious Tony Award for her performance as Harper Pitt in ‘Angels in America’.

After a stint in London’s West End, the Tony Kushner play is currently showing on Broadway.

The play is a complex, often metaphorical, examination of AIDS and homosexuality in America in the 1980s.

A quarter of a century after it first appeared on stage, the play has been brought back to life by director Marianne Elliott.

The play is divided into two parts; Millennium Approaches and Perestroika.

Angels in America received 11 Tony nominations in all, including the Best Revival of a Play, Best Original Score, Best Leading Actor (Andrew Garfield) and Best Direction in a Play (Marianne Elliott).

Denise previously won an Olivier Award best actress for her role in Duncan Macmillan’s People, Places and Things.

The play tells the story of Emma’s addiction problem and her journey through rehab.

Stay tuned for the results in June…
