Cullaun Sailing Club will open it’s new clubhouse this Saturday at 2pm.

Now in operation for forty years, the dinghy sailing club is based between Tulla and Kilkishen and has been a hive of activity for the past few months as final preparations are made ahead of the opening. The club has an active mixed fleet of Wayfarer, Enterprise and Gp14 sailing boats.

Having secured a sports capital grant from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport combined with a LEADER grant from the Clare Local Development Company and financial assistance from Community Finance Ireland, Cullaun have been able to expand from a port a cabin to the new clubhouse. Members have also made donations to facilitate the development.

Tulla Pipe band will play at the opening ceremony followed by blessing of the boats and the new clubhouse and with speakers from the Irish Sailing Assocation, Clare Sports Partnership and  Clare Local Development Company.

The club caters for adults and junior sailing with Easter and summer camps for the juniors and racing and training for the adults.  Racing is every on every Thursday evening with beginners on Tuesday and open sailing at the weekends.  There will be a demo of sailors on the lake before the event and after the opening there will be an open event.

Two weeks after the official opening Cullaun Sailing Club will host the GP14 Munster championship two day event where there could be up to 30 travelling boats descending on the club racing for line honours.
