A FUNDING PACKAGE for the transfer of Shannon Heritage sites to Clare County Council is to be announced “soon”, a Clare TD has promised.

Fresh hope for the future of the sites has been exuded from Government sources with precise details of a new funding package set to be announced.

It comes ten days after the local authority announced they were withdrawing their interest for now, in the absence of adequate financial backing.

Clare TD, Cathal Crowe (FF) said progress has been made in recent days. “I’ve been over and back to ministers these past few days and can confirm that a funding package for the Shannon Heritage takeover by Clare County Council is now being finalised and precise details should be announced soon”.

“It took long enough but a good deal for workers and for the tourism offering at iconic sites like Bunratty Castle is now imminent,” the Meelick native added. Deputy Crowe was optimistic that the Shannon Heritage sites could look forward to a strong 2023 season.

The Clare Echo understands that no such details has as of yet been issued to the County Council who have not been contacted on the matter since November.
