Shannon Airport management have been criticised by Clare TD, Cathal Crowe (FF) for impending job cuts and reduced working hours.

In a statement to The Clare Echo, the Meelick native expressed a deep concern for the future of Shannon Airport and labelled a letter issued on Monday evening to staff informing them of such plans as a premature step.

“This is a huge blow to not only the airport but also the county and region as a whole,” he commented. “I feel the decision was taken prematurely and it would have been more prudent to wait to see is contained in the July stimulus package in terms of support for the airport”.

On Monday morning, Deputy Crowe met with staff of Shannon Airport and Shannon Heritage and is to raise matters brought to his attention with Shannon Group CEO, Mary Considine.

Crowe has also outlined that he is seeking to hold a meeting with Taoiseach, Micheál Martin (FF) to discuss Shannon Airport and its future.
