A preliminary estimate on the cost of constructing an extended footpath and installing LED lighting from the Portdrine flyover to Cratloe junction is to be prepared.

Funding for the project is not available at present, senior executive engineer with the Shannon Municipal District, Aidan O’Rourke outlined. However, he stated that a preliminary estimate on the costs associated with the works would be carried out in order to consider the project for funding or avail of suitable grants.

Cllr PJ Ryan (IND) had appealed for the works to be completed at a recent meeting of the Shannon Municipal District. He called for an extension of the footpath on the R462 from the Portdrine flyover to the junction at Cratloe.

“I see walkers constantly coming off the footpath, when funding becomes available next year we should consider it,” he believed. Cllr Pat O’Gorman (FF) seconded the request.
