Sixmilebridge’s main street requires resurfacing even though “essential maintenance” on the route has been carried out in recent days.

A plea to carry out repairs and resurfacing of the main street in Sixmilebridge was lodged by Cllr PJ Ryan (IND) at the March meeting of the Shannon Municipal District which was seconded by Cllr John Crowe (FG). “Its condition has deteriorated considerably in recent times due to inclement weather conditions,” he highlighted.

Senior executive engineer, Tom Mellett confirmed “essential maintenance of this road has been carried out” with the Shannon MD office to continue to monitor the location.

Numerous motions seeking a resurfacing had been tabled in recent years, Cllr Ryan told the meeting. He detailed that the problems were “ongoing for a long number of years”.

Ryan recalled that a commitment for works “five or six years ago” was delayed “because of a proposed water job that never happened”. He added, “I’m hoping that the engineer in time will see fit to resurface the road, I know they’ve maintenance work done in the last few days. It needs a major resurface job to make it presentable”.
