A โ€œbad sectionโ€ of road between Oatfield and Truagh is included in next yearโ€™s programme of works, officials in Clare County Council have confirmed.

Inclusion of the โ€œbad sectionโ€ of the Oatfield to Truagh cemetery road (L70662) in the schedule of Municipal District was sought by Cllr Joe Cooney (FG).

In response to his motion before the Killaloe Municipal District, acting senior executive engineer, Derek Troy said the section was โ€œcurrently proposed for the 2023 Schedule of Municipal District Works, subject to prioritisation and funding availabilityโ€.

He said any โ€œessential maintenance requiredโ€ will be undertaken in the interval.

โ€œI was hoping weโ€™d get it on the 2022 programme,โ€ Cllr Cooney admitted. โ€œThe condition of the road is simply pathetic,โ€ he added. Maintenance work was completed at the road in April, Cooney recalled. โ€œA bit of work was carried out but it needs an overdressing,โ€ Cllr Alan Oโ€™Callaghan (FF) stated while seconding the request.
