DRAINAGE problems have led to traffic accidents in Parteen, a county councillor has claimed.
Non-serious accidents have been caused as a result of clogged up drains by St Patrick’s Church in Parteen, Cllr Michael Begley (IND) believed.
A cleaning of the drains from the church to Fairyfield in Parteen was requested “due to the amount of fallen leaves and to avoid the risk of flooding,” by Cllr John Crowe (FG). “The provision of the Roadsweeper in this area would also facilitate,” he maintained.
Shannon Municipal District have engaged a contractor to work alongside its own crews “to free up drains along the public road network,” senior executive engineer Tom Mellett replied.
Flooding has been “a problem there for years,” Cllr Crowe outlined. “With the leaves falling it is getting worse, with the rain season coming in I’ve been requested by several residents to get the drains cleared now before it starts”.
Speaking at a meeting of the Shannon MD, Cllr Begley said, “the drainage needs a lot of attention by the church. It has led to a couple of accidents, nothing too serious fortunately but it is important that the drainage is cleared”.
