KILLALOE Ballina Tennis Club have been allocated €63,000 for the development of two indoor tennis courts under this year’s Sports Capital Grant scheme.

Four Clare sports projects were successful in their appeals under this year’s scheme, receiving €240,000 in funding.

Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey has said that the funding will greatly benefit sports clubs in the county.

The biggest allocation went to Clare County Council who will receive an increased allocation of €109,400 for the Active Kilrush Sports complex.

Scariff Rugby Club will receive €40,600 for an indoor astro turf pitch while the Newmarket Celtic Development Committee will get €26,300 for their all-weather pitch.

Deputy Carey said: “I am delighted to see this much needed funding going to the places it will really make a big difference, our local sports clubs.

“This funding is in addition to the funding already announced last year. Active engagement in sports not only helps keep young people healthy, but also builds confidence, independence and promotes team building.

“While some clubs will have been notified that their appeal has been unsuccessful, they will be pleased to learn that a new round of the Sports Capital Programme will open in the near future.

“In this regard, it has been agreed that these organisations can simply submit corrected documentation to make the 2017 application valid. There will be no requirement to submit a full new application and all other aspects of the original application will stand,” he explained.
