CLARE SCHOOLS competing in the Dr Harty Cup and Corn Uí Mhuirí have discovered their opponents for the 2023/24 campaign.

Three Clare schools will compete in the Dr Harty Cup. St Joseph’s Tulla who were the last school from the county to win the prestigious hurling competition have been drawn in Group B alongside Thurles CBS, St Colman’s College Fermoy and Pobalscoil na Trionoide in Youghal.

There will be plenty of Clare interest in Group C with St Flannan’s College paired against Ard Scoil Rís, De La Salle of Waterford and Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig. This particular group will pit many of the All-Ireland winning minor hurlers from the county against each other while current Éire Óg coach Liam Cronin is in charge of Ard Scoil.

Rice College will be lining out in this year’s Harty Cup and are in Group A where they will face off with Midleton CBS, Scoil na Trionoide Doon and Christian Brothers College.

In total, there are 21 teams in the Dr Harty Cup with three groups of four teams and three groups of three teams. Four of the group winners will qualify straight for the quarter-finals with two remaining group winners and all six runners up contesting the preliminary quarter-finals.

St Flannan’s College are the only Clare school competing in the Corn Uí Mhuirí and they will be in Group C against St Brendan’s College of Killarney, Coláiste Choilm Ballincollig and Patrician Academy Mallow.

For the Corn Uí Mhuirí, there are nineteen teams split into four groups of four and one group of three. The top two will qualify from each group, five of the group winners and one runner up will progress to the quarter-finals with the four remaining runners up to play the prelinary quarter-finals.
