THE Clare ladies football team are ditching the boots in an effort to raise money for four charities who have been hit hard by the Coronavirus pandemic.

They are aiming to run a combined total of 1000km by the end of this week and have already raised €6000 for West Clare Cancer Centre, Pieta, Clare Cystic Fibrosis and the Doing it For Dan charity appeal.

“We are overwhelmed by the support we have seen from people so far this week. Former county players, our own clubs and Clare juvenile teams have backed us throughout the week by joining us in ditching their boots and also donating. We are very grateful for everyone’s contribution and it has been a massive motivator for the girls out running.

“People can get involved by ditching their boots, join us by running/walking, using the #DitchTheBoots on social media and donating via the GoFundMe Link on all Clare LGFA social media platforms,” said Clare captain Ellie O’Gorman.

On Sunday morning at 6am the Clare ladies will be finishing their challenge with a ‘Darkness Into Light’ run/walk.

“We are asking everyone that supported us throughout the week already to join us at 6am as we conclude our challenge,” Ellie added.
