CLARE’s senior hurlers have jetted off to Portugal for a warm-weather training camp.
Championship is just a month away for Clare’s senior hurlers with Waterford coming to town on April 19th, before then there’s the Division 1B league final to look forward with the county’s opponents to be finalised this weekend.
Given that Clare have a bye in the final round of the Allianz National Hurling League and the countdown to championship edging closer, the free weekend has been maximised to full effect by heading overseas for a training camp.
On Sunday morning, Clare held an open session for Club Clare members in what was their final training in Caherlohan before departing for St Patrick’s Day.
Cork’s senior hurlers were returning from a warm-weather training camp in Portugal as Clare headed in the opposite direction.
Two-time All-Ireland winning Clare captain, Anthony Daly had recently joked on RTÉ that Brian Lohan’s charges wouldn’t go further than The Burren as they zoned in on preparations for the championship. “Whether it’s a training camp…we won’t be going to Spain or anything like that! We wouldn’t be able to afford it. But we’ll go up The Burren or somewhere like that or climb a few mountains,” Dalo quipped.
With six wins from six outings in the Allianz National Hurling League and over thirty five hurlers used in the course of the campaign, Clare are in a healthy position and fortunately boast no long-term injuries.
