CO CLARE has elected its four TDs for the 34th Dáil.

Fianna Fáil have claimed two seats in the county for the first time since 2007 with Fine Gael and Sinn Féin electing one TD each.

After losing his seat in February 2020, Timmy Dooley (FF) delivered a poll-topping performance amassing 11,313 votes. Not since Brendan Daly (FF) in 1977 when he had a higher return of 11,933 has there been a higher first preference.

Sitting TD, Cathal Crowe (FF) although he recorded 94 less first preferences than 2020 successfully managed to retain his seat and ensured Fianna Fáil had the first and second candidates elected.

For the second General Election in a row, Clare has elected a Sinn Féin TD. Cllr Donna McGettigan (SF) who was co-opted to Clare County Council in January 2020 following the death of her dear friend Mike McKee (SF), took the third seat in Clare. She was elected on the sixteenth and final count without reaching the quota.

Joining them is Cllr Joe Cooney (FG) who ensured Fine Gael kept a seat in Clare. The O’Callaghans Mills man was also elected without reaching the quota of 12,182.

In what was a record ballot paper in Clare, counting went on from 9am on Saturday morning until 8pm on Sunday evening.
