CRUSHEEN, Sixmilebridge, Clonlara, Newmarket-On-Fergus, Doora Barefield, Kilmaley, O’Callaghan’s Mills and Inagh-Kilnamona are all marching on to quarter-finals despite a mixed bag of results this weekend.
Clooney-Quin continued their good run of form in the competition so far as they romped to an easy win over Corofin, just missing out on a top-four spot.
A monster performance from Shane McGrath helped the Canon holders to a four point victory over Broadford in an exciting East-Clare contest.
Doora-Barefield booked their place in the quarter-finals after a very tough contest against Crusheen in windy conditions.
A six goal thriller was the game of the weekend between Cratloe and Clarecastle that saw the Magpies end their rocky campaign with a well deserved victory.
The Bridge and Inagh-Kilnamona may already be through but their clash certainly didn’t disappoint with Aidan McCarthy continuing to make his presence felt.
Fourteen men finished the evening for the Blues who steeled themselves to a five point win over 2023 county champions Clonlara.
Kilmaley were handed a walkover by Wolfe-Tones who failed to field a team.

CLOONEY-QUIN continued their fine of form in the Clare Cup with an easy win over Corofin.
Relegated from the senior championship in 2024, Corofin struggled to make home advantage count as they were beaten by thirteen points in very wet conditions.
After registering a point in the first half, centre-back Killian O’Connor was forced off through injury and replaced by Michael Cahill. Full forward Gearóid Kelly made excellent use of frees, despite the difficult conditions, scoring five for the men in red and white. James Organ returned with two points to club action after the Clare U20s controversial defeat to Tipperary while Caomhín O’Donovan also raised the white flag for the home side.
Clooney-Quin were impressive throughout however and effectively controlled the game. The visitors will be happy with the fact that eight different players managed to score for them tonight, including Callum Hassett who finished with an impressive tally of four frees and two from play.
Goals from Gerry O’Connor and half-back John Cahill helped Clooney to subdue the home side and progress to the next round. With 2025 offering an early hunt for the Canon Hamilton, Clooney will no doubt look to continue their fine scoring and claim the cup for the first time since 1942.

1-14 from Shane McGrath in a stellar performance by Shane McGrath saw Feakle claim a four point victory over Broadford on Saturday evening.
A one man show from the centre forward helped the reigning county champions to secure a win at home against their fellow East Clare side.
McGrath was excellent throughout, scoring six from play in combination with a 65 and seven frees to round out his impressive tally. Corner-forward Oisin O’Connor was the home side’s second scorer as he finished the evening with a respectable two points. Sean Walsh, Ronan O’Connor, Diarmaid Bane and Pa Daly got a point each from play.
A strong breeze helped the home side to a commanding 1-15 to 0-05 lead at half time. It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Canon holders however as Broadford fought back valiantly with Niall O’Farrell scoring eight points. Brothers Craig and Darren Chaplin combined to notch up seven points together. The visitors made the best of the breeze when they had it put were unable to undo the damage already done, never closing the gap below four points. Ultimately, this was the margin that decided the game.

THE PARISH got the better of Crusheen following a tense encounter.
Both sides meet in the first round of the championship so management will be reluctant to show their hands just yet.
Eoin Óg Fanning opened the scoring for the visitors in the first minute with a point. Doora-Barefield had the pick of the scores in the opening seven minutes as their impressive forwards notched up five points without reply, the final coming from a David Conroy free.
Crusheen were down but not out however and came roaring back through Luke Ketelaar who earned a goal and a point. Scores from Jamie Fitzgibbon and Oisín O’Donnell helped to settle the home side while Doora-Barefield fought back with a sideline cut by David Conroy and a point from Darragh McMahon at midfield.
The home side seized control of the game from the eighteenth minute onwards as they scored five without a response from Barefield, Crusheen’s Oisín O’Donnell and Cian Dillon doing the damage from midfield and half-forward. The visitors fired back with a late surge of three points that saw them finish the first half 0-12 to 1-11.
It wasn’t Crusheen vs Doora-Barefield so much as it was Oisín O’Donnell vs David Conroy in this match as O’Donnell raised the white flag four times in the second half while his Parish counterpart went one better with five. The home side faltered in the final ten minutes however and failed to score as Doora-Barefield edged ahead, helped on by a Brian Guilfoyle goal in the thirty-fifth minute. A great game that promises a lot for the championship’s group one.

THE rain did little to stop a fine evening’s hurling in Cratloe as Clarecastle claimed an exciting four point victory over their hosts.
The Magpies found the back of the net four times including a monster sideline by Oisín Whelan at the end of normal time.
Clarecastle are riding the crest of the wave at the moment with a squad brimming with young talent and finished their 2025 league campaign on a high. Half-forward Oisín Whelan played a stormer, finishing the evening with an impressive haul of 2-8. Harry Doherty continues to seem destined for greatness, lighting up the scoreboard with a further four points this evening.
The visitors led by a point inside five minutes as Cian Broderick pulled off a brilliant save to deny Cratloe a goal. Whelan converted a penalty on the stroke of the first quarter and followed it with three more in three minutes that saw his side six points up after 20 minutes. The young guns continued to fire as Harry Doherty finished a beautiful score over his shoulder into the back of the Cratloe net.
Cratloe fought back before the break however and ended the first half only one point behind, hitting four points without reply including two from Clare U20 Tadgh Lohan. Broderick pulled off another fine save after play resumed with Evan O’Connell putting up the green flag at the other end via a Pa Kelly assist. Kelly would find the back of the net himself with fifteen minutes to go after a superb catch in the square by the ever present Harry Doherty was laid off.
Cratloe struck late on to reduce the deficit to four points with their first goal of the evening. The pendulum swung back again in this rollercoaster however as Oisín Whelan’s sideline found its way into the Cratloe goal. The home side followed this with a second goal but the Magpies managed to hang on until the full-time whistle.

AIDAN MCCARTHY again showed what a loss he is to the county, scoring fourteen points in a 1-23 to 2-15 win over the Bridge.
As with all games on Saturday, the weather had a severe impact on the scoring, especially for whichever side had the wind.
Sixmilebridge were lucky enough to have the breeze in the first half but failed to take full advantage in a mistake they would later rue. The 2020 county champions hit nine wides compared to just two from the home side, resulting in a 1-11 to 1-10 advantage for Inamona at half time. The goals came from Evan McNamara and Alex Morey. Morey was particularly impressive with 1-6.
McCarthy continued to put his inter-county pedigree to good use in the third quarter, dominating the scoring and stretching the home side’s lead to six points. Another five wides frustrated the Bridge’s usually sharp forwards, although Inagh managed four of their own in the second half. The lead ran to eight points before a late goal by Adam Murray put a bit of gloss on it for the visitors. Keep an eye on Inagh and especially McCarthy for the championship this year.

NEWMARKET-ON-FERGUS recorded another win in their 2025 league campaign as they emerged five-point winners over Clonlara, despite having a man sent off.
A strong breeze benefitted Clonlara who led by four points to two after the opening twelve minutes. Frees from Eanna Crimmins and Colin Guilfoyle levelled the scores.
Tit-for-tat scoring developed as the first half progressed as Clonlara again went two points ahead before being caught by Newmarket. Points from corner forwards Sean Arthur and Eoin Guilfoyle for the home side saw both sides level at half time with nine points each.
Mikey McInerney starred for the Blues in the second half with three points while Colin Guilfoyle did likewise. A second yellow card saw Eoin Guilfoyle sent to the sidelines however. This reduction in numbers forced Newmarket-On-Fergus to make use of the breeze.
Kieran Galvin scored five points for the 2023 county champions and Clare U20 Diarmaid Stritch split the posts once from play but it was not enough to stop a comprehensive win for the home side who ended a miserable evening with a comforting seven point win.
