CHAMPIONSHIP “is all about winning,” said Feakle manager Ger Conway as his charges go in search of successive victories.

Feakle take on Kilmaley in the second tie in Sunday’s double bill at Cusack Park. With a four point win over Cratloe already under their belts, last year’s semi-finalists are looking to make it two from two and edge closer to the knockout stages.

Focus is firmly on getting that win, Feakle manager Ger Conway explained. “Kilmaley will be a totally different ball game altogether but you be hoping that with a win under your belt that lads would be a bit more relaxed and that you’d be able to express yourself that little bit better. We’ll be going all out to win it, just as we have done for any championship match so hopefully we can step up again”.

Speaking to The Clare Echo following their round one victory over Cratloe, Conway said, “We are hugely delighted because championship is all about winning. We would have been nervous enough coming into it as Cratloe have great experience behind them, have a lot of big names that have won championships before so there was nothing going to be easy about it but lads dug in and hurling well so it was great to get over the line on the first day out.

“And we had to dig deep, first to the goal from Conor McGrath and then lads responded very well in the second half too when it looked as if Cratloe had the momentum. We were five or six up there at one stage and I don’t really know what went wrong, whether we pulled up the handbreak a small bit or just fell asleep. But we made a few substitutes and thankfully lads responded again and we got back into our groove of adding a few points before the finish to get over the line”.
