Wheelchair users will be able to access the beach in Carrigaholt this summer.

Ramped wheelchair access is to be reinstalled at the South West Clare beach. “Sea and storm damage to this area over the last number of years” has been attributed as the reason why the location was off limits for individuals reliant on a wheelchair.

“Signage will also be put in place to ensure that access to the ramp is kept clear. It is planned to have this work complete for the summer season,” acting senior executive engineer of the West Clare Municipal District, John O’Malley stated.

This confirmation followed a motion from Cllr Gabriel Keating at the March meeting of the Municipal District where he sought the reinstallation of wheelchair access which he acknowledged was damaged by the storms. Keating was seconded by Cllr Bill Chambers in his request.
