CANDLES will be lit at playgrounds across East Clare for the children of Gaza next week.

A group of East Clare volunteers will join the Waterford Gaeltacht-based group, Gaeil ar son Gaza, in lighting a candle at playgrounds in Scariff, Mountshannon, Feakle and Quin on Wednesday night (May 1), in support of their campaign to light up Ireland to remember the many thousands of children who have been killed, maimed and orphaned by Israel in Gaza.

Already, people throughout Ireland as well as from the Irish diaspora abroad have confirmed that they will be coming together with friends and family at 9.30pm after sunset on the night to support this action. They are extending an invitation to all of the people of Ireland to join with Gaeil ar son Gaza, wherever they may be, to light a candle in order to show the children of Palestine that they have not been forgotten or abandoned by the world. They ask that people post a photograph or short video on the night and to share on social media, using the hashtag #GaeilArSonGaza.

The aim is to make Ireland glow and to show our love and support for the children of Gaza.

The aim of this campaign is one of solidarity, but also has a practical purpose to fundraise on a GoFundMe page for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. More details about the campaign, can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/f/candles-for-gaza
