A bid to have a ban on overnight parking at Kilnasoolagh Park has been rejected.

An appeal by Cllr Pat McMahon (FF) for no overnight parking signs to be erected at the back entrances of house numbers 63-74 and 91-108 at Kilnsaoolagh Park in Newmarket-on-Fergus was disapproved by local authority staff.

Senior executive engineer, Tom Mellett explained “A ban on overnight parking would require bye laws. ‘Set down only’ signs would be more appropriate for this location”.

Speaking at a recent sitting of the Shannon Municipal District, Cllr McMahon said that a previous incident at the estate when cars were burnt down prompted residents to change where they parked their cars.

He acknowledged the viewpoint of the Council engineer. “Some people whose cars were burned are still living with that nightmare”. McMahon’s motion was seconded by Cllr PJ Ryan (IND).
