CREATING a linkage to Place de Plouzané from Henry St in Kilrush can lead to “regeneration opportunities” for the West Clare town.

An appeal for Clare County Council’s property acquisitions department to assess the feasibility of establishing a vehicle and/or pedestrian access to Place de Plouzané via Henry St was tabled by Cllr Ian Lynch (IND) at a recent sitting of the West Clare Municipal District. The proposal was seconded by Cllr Cillian Murphy (FF).

He argued, “making the car park more accessible and open would reinvigorate the development attracting more retail opportunities”.

Acting senior executive officer with the West Clare MD, John O’Malley outlined that they were in favour of linking Place de Plouzané with Henry St and agree “that such a linkage would likely lead to regeneration opportunities in both Place de Plouzané and Henry Street”.

If nothing arises from the motion, Vandeleur Street is a potential option to access the centre of the town, Cllr Lynch suggested. He continued, “We also looked before at doing a coach park there, maybe a car park like glór could be looked at. We’re struggling to find a sheltered spot in Kilrush for the bus stops, more traffic and footfall through it will help people realise it is there. Anything that could be done on it would be great, it is a great opportunity for the town”.
