Avenue United and Ennis Town progressed to the next round of the FAI Junior cup with home victories over Desmond league opposition on Sunday.

There was no such luck for Bridge Utd who bowed out of the title race when they fell to Fenit Saphires from Kerry after a penalty shoot out.

Meanwhile, Shannon Olympic advanced in the Munster junior cup with a narrow win over their neighbours Shannon Town C. Avenue United and Newmarket Celtic clash in their re-scheduled Munster junior cup tie this Sunday. With the teams tied at 1-1 two weeks ago the game was cancelled when one of the match officials took ill.

Dylan heads Avenue into next round

Dylan Casey scored the only goal in this FAI Junior Cup game which saw Avenue United overcome Abbeyfeale on Sunday.

Dylan rose highest to plant a powerful header in the net for the decisive score which has sent the Clare league side into the next round of this prestigious competition which sees junior clubs throughout the country chasing the title each year.

Fenit won 4-2 on penalties.

Bridge United made the journey to Kerry on Sunday which ended with them bowing out of the title race after a penalty shoot out.

Kieran Quinlan was the Clare sideโ€™s goalscorer in normal time n which both sides had chances to edge ahead.

Extra time failed to produce a winner and this resulted in a penalty shoot out which the Kerry outfit won. The Bridge goalscorers in the shoot out were Davy Lynch and Steve Stewart.

Ennis Town survive late Rathkeale charge

Ennis Town booked their place in the next round of the FAI junior cup with this victory by the odd goal in five over Rathkeale.

Ennis Town led 3-0 at half time with goals from Davy Keenan, Dean Hegarty and Yasher Aliu.

Rathkeale piled on the pressure in the second half but the home side held firm with goalkeeper Andrew Skerritt making some excellent stops in the closing quarter.

Olympic advance in Munster

Shannon Olympic progressed to the next round of the Munster Junior Cup with this hard earned win over their neighbours, Shannon Town C.

After a scoreless first half the all important goal came midway through the second period when Daniel Clair got up to head a corner from the right to the net at the far post.

Shannon Town tried hard to get back into the contest but Olympic held firm for a merited win.

Newmarket continue charge for another title

Newmarket Celtic continued their search for another premier league title with a comfortable win over Lifford.

Defensive errors proved costly for Lifford in the early stages and the winners raced into a 3-0 lead. Sean Corry pulled one back for Lifford but Newmarket restored their three goal advantage to secure all three points.

David McCarthy opened the scoring for the winners when he converted a free kick and Aaron Rudd doubled their led when he headed to the net. They stretched their lead courtesy of an own goal and led 3-0 at the interval. In the second half Aaron Rudd scored again for the winners.
