CASUAL trading licences are now being accepted by Galway County Council for the St. Nicholas Summer Market which will run in July and August.

Located on Churchyard St in Galway City, the trading days for the St Nicholas Summer Market are from Wednesday to Friday from 12pm to 8pm. The fee is €65 per linear metre.

A Casual Trading Licence is a permit that allows the licence holder to operate a market stall selling goods in a designated area at particular times in Galway City.

Applications will be accepted until the deadline of May 18th, no late applications will be accepted the local authority has advised.

Earlier this month, traders in St Nicholas’ Market threatened not to pay their licence fee next year due to a lack of communication from the Council on a start-date to a proposed upgrade of the market.

In a letter to the Chief Executive of Galway City Council Leonard Cleary, the sixteen traders demanded a plan to apply the by-laws to ensure all spots are filled.

Regarding the upgrade, there are three key issues the traders point out they have ‘repeatedly raised’. They include the lack of essential services such as bins, toilets, electricity and running water along with the need for street surfacing, public lighting, seating and signage.
