DOOLIN’s main access point from the direction of Lahinch and Liscannor needs to be included in the winter maintenance routes plan, a North Clare representative has argued.

An appeal for the R478 Lahinch/Liscannor to Doolin Rd to be added onto Clare County Council’s winter maintenance routes plan was made by Cllr Shane Talty (FF) at a sitting of the West Clare Municipal District.

Gritter trucks need to be traversing the North Clare route, Cllr Talty maintained. He also requested information on what additional roads would be covered during the winter schedule.

Senior executive engineer, Tony Neville was unable to confirm what additional roads would be added but flagged that the mentioned R478/R479 Lahinch/Liscannor to Doolin route “is not included in the current Winter Maintenance Plan”.

Neville stated, “Any alterations will have to be considered centrally in conjunction with our Transportation Department”.

Cllr Ian Lynch (IND), Cllr Cillian Murphy (FF), Cllr Joe Garrihy (FG), Cllr Liam Grant (GP) and Cllr Joe Killeen (FF) supported the motion.
