Aldi

THERE was another jobs boost for East Clare today as Aldi were granted planning permission for a new store in Killaloe.

The international discount food store giant will construct a 10,000 square metres on Abbey Street, Killaloe.

The new development will bring more competition to the East Clare town, which already has a Supervalu.

“We welcome An Bord Pleanála’s decision and we believe competition is good for consumers.

“We will now move forward with our plans to open a new store in Killaloe, bringing our range of award winning products at unbeatable prices to the local community,” A spokesperson for Aldi said.

The single story site will come complete with an off-licence and 87 car parking spaces.

Since 1999 Aldi have invested €1.2 billion in their store opening programme and last year they spent over €700 million with Irish suppliers.

“We are engaged in a three year €100 million expansion programme with plans to open 20 new stores and creating 400 new jobs by the end of 2019,” the Aldi spokesperson added.
