Level of activity at Clare’s COVID-19 vaccination centre will determine at what stage traffic calming works for Abbeycourt and Abbeyville will conclude.

Traffic calming works at Abbeycourt and Abbeyville in Ennis will be completed by a local contractor, senior executive engineer Eamon O’Dea informed the April meeting of the Ennis Municipal District.

Works were intended to commence in early April, he advised. “The completion of the section adjacent to the R458 will be subject to the level of activity at the Vaccination Centre based in the Conference Centre at the Tracey’s West County Hotel,” O’Dea stated.

Acknowledgement of the impact of Level Five restrictions on such work was expressed by Cllr Paul Murphy (FG). The Mayor of Ennis had requested an update on the progress of the traffic calming measures which he felt had been “a big issue”. His proposal was seconded by Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy (FF).

“A massive population” reside in the area, Cllr Pat Daly (FF) flagged. He also referenced the activity at both the pub and hotel adjacent to the entrance.

Parking difficulties had caused frustration for residents, Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG) noted. “It is great to see the commitment to moving it forward”.
