A SITE to serve as an off-street car park in Ennistymon has been located with Clare County Council in the final stages of purchasing it.

70 percent of work on the €500k Ennistymon streetscape project is now completed, the planned rejuvenation most notably included the intention to house the Púca statue in the North Clare town.

While the Púca may not have arrived in Ennistymon, upgrades to the existing drainage network, undergrounding all electrical cables, removal of overhead wires and poles and new lighting have gone ahead. Installation of new kerbs and paving has commenced while the addition of street furniture and an art piece have to be finished.

Director of Service with Clare County Council, Leonard Cleary expected works on the streetscape project to be concluded by the second quarter of 2022. “A suitable site has been identified for an off-street car park within the town and we are entering the final stages in relation to the purchase of this site currently,” he confirmed.

“Businesses are nervous and concerned about the delivery about the delivery of off-street parking that was promised,” Cllr Shane Talty (FF) admitted. He noted the recent retirement of Council official Gerry Moloney after fifty one years of service, he said a statue of Gerry with his lollipop stick “might be more synonymous” with Ennistymon.

Ongoing work was commended by Cllr Joe Garrihy (FG), he commented, “sometimes it’s not what you do, it’s the way you do it”.
