CROSSING POINTS are set to be introduced from adjoining estates under an upcoming Ballycasey Active Travel project.
Traffic calming measures in the Gleann Rua and Cluain Donn area of Ballycasey were requested by Cllr Donna McGettigan (SF) before the January meeting of the Shannon Municipal District.
She explained, โthis is an area almost like a cul de sac where a lot of children play and residents are concerned with the speed and visibility of trafficโ.
Senior executive engineer, Tom Mellett confirmed that the MD office intended to introduce a crossing point from the adjoining estates as part of works into the upcoming Ballycasey Active Travel project. He added, โTraffic calming measures will be required to facilitate this crossing and will form part of the design processโ.
โIn some cases with parking you can come in one way and out the other, often you canโt see the traffic coming around the corner. Kids are playing there and they run across the road, it is a wonder there hasnโt been an accident,โ Shannon representative McGettigan stated.
Support for the motion was voiced by Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND) who stressed the importance of public consultation with the local residents.
