SIXMILEBRIDGE’s Martin Conlon has been ratified as a new member of the Cork senior camogie management.
Conlon has been confirmed as the strength and conditioning coach of the Cork senior camogie team for 2022. The side will be managed by Matthew Twomey with ex Clare and Wexford senior hurling manager, Davy Fitzgerald on board as coach of the Rebellettes.
Bridge native Martin has been involved with his club’s senior hurling side for the past two seasons, the Tim Crowe managed outfit were crowned county champions in 2020 but exited to Éire Óg in the quarter-finals this year. Within the club, he is actively involved with underage hurling sides.
Also over the past two seasons, the Shannon Airport station officer was S&C coach to the Newmarket-on-Fergus senior camogie side, the Blues managed by Brian Enright coming up short in the 2020 county final to Inagh/Kilnamona.
Prior to these roles, Conlon was S&C coach to the Clare senior camogie team, then managed by Patricia O’Grady with Enright serving as coach. He also held S&C posts with the O’Callaghans Mills senior hurlers for three years when the East Clare men were managed by Pat Loughnane and also the Sixmilebridge senior camogie side.
On the field, he is the holder of three Clare SHC medals lining out in the forward line for The Bridge when they claimed the Canon Hamilton in 1993, 1995 and 2000. He also has an All-Ireland club medal from 1996. As a pupil of St Flannan’s College, he played in the Harty Cup competition for three years.
In November, Fitzgerald was confirmed as Cork’s coach, the two-time All-Ireland winner was set to be announced as the Galway senior hurling manager before County Board chiefs had a late change of heart.
Clare’s management includes Davy’s son, Colm who was part of the Bridge senior panel that both Fitzgerald and Conlon were overseeing.
