CALLS to light up Shannon’s ‘black path’ have been voiced by elected representatives.

Located between Tradaree and Drumgeely, The Black Path goes through housing estates in the environs of St Tola’s National School in Shannon.

At a recent meeting of the Shannon Municipal District, Cllr Donna McGettigan (SF) appealed for extra lighting along the path and “to move the sign indicating the black path to its correct location”. Her request was supported by Cllr Gerry Flynn (IND).

She said that work had been done on the tree roots, “more lighting would help people to see the footpath. The sign should be where the black path is”.

Anne O’Sullivan, a senior executive engineer in the roads and transportation section of Clare County Council outlined that the proposal would be examined by the public lighting section with a cost estimate to be prepared “with a view to seeking funding for this project”.

Senior executive engineer in the Shannon MD, Tom Mellett confirmed, “the sign will be relocated to the correct location”.
