Young Clare footballers have been put in the shop window for League of Ireland clubs following the county’s success in the Kennedy Bowl.

Clare won the Kennedy Bowl for the first time in twenty one years when they recorded a 3-0 win over Galway on Saturday morning.

It was an impressive campaign from the Banner ballers who only lost one game, that outing with Cork represented the only time they conceded a goal in the competition, they had two put past them in that clash.

Shannon’s Davy Wall was manager of the side, his father Brendan is Chairman of the CSSL while his son Conor lined out between the posts as Clare’s safe pair of hands.

Speaking to The Clare Echo, Davy reflected on a very positive campaign in which Clare dominated for large spells. He believed their semi-final win against a fancied North Dublin Schoolboys League was a big turning point and lift for the squad. “Our standout result was against North Dublin, they were very confident they would beat us but like the final, it was a comfortable win for us”.

“It will definitely lead to players playing in the League of Ireland. We want to put them in the window for League of Ireland clubs to see” the former Newtown FC and Newmarket Celtic striker stated. He expected four to five of the Clare squad to make the step up in the coming years to LOI clubs.
