HOMEOWNERS impacted by the presence of defective concrete blocks are becoming increasingly frustrated as they remain left out in the cold of a redress scheme.
Additional information has been sought by the Department of Housing from Clare County Council into their application to extend the Defective Concrete Blocks Scheme to Clare.
The Clare Echo understands that lab testing results submitted by the local authority have been queried by the Department. This has caused a further delay for homeowners and their attempts for redress.
“It is frustrating that an additional queue has been made by the Department at the eleventh hour,” Deputy Cathal Crowe (FF) told The Clare Echo. He said the houses of the Oireachtas will now have to prepare legislation on the redress scheme which “realistically” could be in place by February.
Deputy Crowe had previously expressed hope that the Clare homeowners would be included by Christmas. He said it was likely that the Council would have submitted their relevant correspondence to the Department by then.
Pyrite homeowners in the county are becoming increasingly annoyed and upset, as was evident at a public meeting on Friday evening at Treacy’s West County Hotel.
Tensions are also rising between members of the Clare Pyrite Action Group and the county’s elected representatives as frustrations grow over the lack of progress for the county’s cause for redress. The Pyrite Action Group have said they need to be furnished with more answers particularly on the timeline between the Council and the Department plus budgetary expenses.
