SAFETY is to improve at the junction leading to the grounds of Clooney/Quin GAA club.
An appeal for works was issued by Cllr Alan O’Callaghan (FF) at the November meeting of the Killaloe Municipal District where he flagged safety concerns at Smith’s Cross in Quin.
Senior executive engineer, Niamh Madden outlined that the Killaloe MD had assessed the junction and erected signage at the location.
Commitments from the local authority is “as much as can be done,” Cllr O’Callaghan acknowledged. The addition of road markings and signage would help improve safety, “it is a very busy junction, it is a thoroughfare from Quin to Tulla and there is a lot of activity at Clooney/Quin’s hurling field”.
Members of the Fire Service have had to attend “a couple of accidents” at the cross in recent years, he stated.
Cathaoirleach of the Killaloe MD, Cllr Joe Cooney (FG) seconded the proposal, “It is a junction I’ve used a lot in the past, I’m well aware of it, it does need to be made safer”.
