A young age-profile of players is going to help Clarecastle in their efforts to return to the top tier of Clare hurling.

Clarecastle were relegated from the senior ranks for the first time last weekend after failing to secure a win in their three outings against Clooney/Quin, O’Callaghans Mills and Crusheen.

Losing out and seeing their faith represented “a tough day at the office,” selector Eric Flynn acknowledged. “We’ve been on the wrong side of a few defeats in the last three games, we’ve been competitive in all the games, unlucky in one or two, if they had gone our way we would be in a different position today but we have to take our medicine and unfortunately down we are going to intermediate championship next year.

“We’ve a very young squad, a lot of under 21s which is encouraging and we blooded a lot of lads this year, lads who wouldn’t have been on our radar from a squad point of view at the start of the year. We were down Cian Galvin an obvious loss at this level,” the Clare SHC winner added.

Flynn concluded, “Look all we want is a bit of honesty, you can have all the tactics and tactic boards you want but unless lads go out and put their bodies on the line for their club you are at nothing. We are proud to say that we did this all year, very proud of their efforts. We’ve only had the one year with them. It’s a bit soon to say what we will do but we are super proud of their efforts and hopefully we can bring them back”.
