Sixmilebridge’s markings and manholes are ‘worn out’, local representative have flagged.
An appeal to have all road markings on the streets and approach roads to Sixmilebridge refurbished was issued by Cllr PJ Ryan (IND) at a recent meeting of the Shannon Municipal District. “They have become very worn over time,” he highlighted and referenced the Square and routes leading to Cratloe, Kilkishen and Clonlara.
Staff in the Shannon MD office arranged for the markings to be renewed following an overlay from the railway bridge to the Garda Station earlier in 2021, senior executive engineer Tom Mellett outlined.
Markings have recently been completed on Church Road, Shannon Road and Rossmanager Road. The town and village renewal scheme is to deliver a pedestrian crossing between the square and the funeral home. Mellett advised, “this will include an upgrade to road markings in this area. The office will assess the outer approach roads and complete line marking renewal where necessary”.
Not alone are the markings worn but so too are the grips on manholes, Cllr John Crowe (FG) stated. “They are worn would you believe, about two months ago I was crossing the street, it was raining, a woman slipped on the manholes, the grip is gone from them because of the amount of traffic”. He appealed for the manholes to be assessed in tandem with the road markings.
