St. Flannan’s College, Ennis are through to the semi-final of the Dean Ryan Cup, Munster colleges junior A hurling championship.

In their quarter final tie at Midleton this Wednesday afternoon they recorded an eight point win over Midleton CBS, 1-19 to 1-11.

Ahead by a point, 0-5 to 0-4 at the first water break, the Clare side managed by Jamesie O’Connor, Tony Kelly and Michael Donnellan found themselves behind early in the second quarter after Midleton had got through for a goal.

St. Flannan’s fought back to be level, 0-9 to 1-6, at half time before edging a couple of points clear in the third quarter thanks to hard work and strong defending with the full back trio of Ronan Kilroy, Paddy Nagle and Joseph Casey to the fore.

Michael Power struck for the team’s goal after taking a pass from Joseph Mescall and this sealed the victory and a place in the semi-final where their opponents will be De La Salle from Waterford, winners over Nenagh CBS this Wednesday afternoon.

In the B competition on Tuesday, Rice College Ennis were 5-25 to 2-8 winners over Castletroy College.

St. Annes Killaloe made a winning start in the under 16.5 D grade when they scored a 1-23 to 3-6 win over Ennistymon CBS.

Meanwhile in the under 15 B football competition, Kilrush CBS were 6-7 to 3-6 winners over St. Caimins from Shannon in a game played at Kilrush this Wednesday afternoon.
