An increase in the inspections of private rental properties has been recorded for September in Clare amid “legacy hesitancy from tenants in permitting access”.

Private rented inspections “remain impacted” by COVID-19 restrictions and “a legacy hesitancy from tenants in permitting access to properties for physical inspections,” a spokesperson for Clare County Council outlined.

A virtual inspection option remains open to landlords and tenants to assess compliance with minimum rented standards. In the month of September, housing officials in the local authority completed 180 virtual inspections and two physical inspections.

Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG) speaking at Monday’s meeting of the County Council commented “virtual inspections give great opportunities for tenants and landlords to prove they are living in adequate accommodation or to prove where they are deficiencies”.

Meanwhile, the Council’s tenancy enforcement team have responded to 1,943 call-outs to date in 2021, 280 of which were in September.
