Safety for pedestrians and motorists is to improve in the village of Quin.
Public consultation has been carried out by the roads design department of Clare County Council recently relating to proposed footpaths and traffic calming measures in the village of Quin.
Submissions from the public will be given consideration, senior executive engineer in the Killaloe Municipal District, Niamh Madden stated.
She explained, “The proposed scheme extends from the church in Quin to just beyond Malachy’s Bar on the R469, where it will tie in with the existing footpath outside the playground. The scheme also includes works on the L-7156, which is the road where Quin National School is located. The provision of a footpath from the centre of the village as far as the playground will improve safety for pedestrians walking this route”.
“It is anticipated that this proposed amendment to the layout on the approach to the village from the Sixmilebridge side will have a positive effect on the reduction of speed at this location,” Ms Madden added.
Quin had been included for Active Travel funding following agreement by councillors in the Killaloe MD at their September meeting.
In a separate proposal, Cllr Alan O’Callaghan (FF) sought a slight extension to the works for the safety of users of the Quin playground which was seconded by Cllr Joe Cooney (FG). “It is badly lit, there is a footpath but no lights from Malachy’s pub up,” O’Callaghan commented. “The traffic is coming very fast, it is a pretty busy playground with a lot of activity and a lot of concerned residents talking about safety”.
