Road markings are to be placed on the L-2006 near Doonaha as a short-term measure to clamp down on speeding in the South-West Clare village.

Low-cost speed measures in the village were requested by Cllr Cillian Murphy (FF) at a recent sitting of the West Clare Municipal District.

Senior executive engineer, Alan Kenneally confirmed that โ€˜slowโ€™ road markings would be placed on the L-2006 near Doonaha. Should safe locations be found, he believed advance warning signs could also be placed on the approach to the village. โ€œSubject to funding becoming available, it may be possible to erect two Driver Feedback Signs in Doonaha,โ€ he added.

โ€œAgain, subject to funding becoming available, it may be possible at a future date to construct additional footpaths in the village. This would narrow the carriageway width through the village and would serve as a traffic calming measure,โ€ Kenneally stated.

Doonaha has become โ€œa very busy space, it is on the Wild Atlantic Way route,โ€ Cllr Murphy flagged. โ€œWeโ€™ve done a piece of work on eastern side to it which has widened the road into it. It would be an ideal candidate for Active Travel funding,โ€ the Cathaoirleach of the West Clare MD continued.

Signs for the village have been a recent addition, Cllr Gabriel Keating (FG) observed. โ€œMany people are going through Doonaha at the minute because it is on Wild Atlantic Wayโ€. He agreed that Active Travel funding could aid the concerns.
