Road markings are to be placed on the L-2006 near Doonaha as a short-term measure to clamp down on speeding in the South-West Clare village.
Low-cost speed measures in the village were requested by Cllr Cillian Murphy (FF) at a recent sitting of the West Clare Municipal District.
Senior executive engineer, Alan Kenneally confirmed that โslowโ road markings would be placed on the L-2006 near Doonaha. Should safe locations be found, he believed advance warning signs could also be placed on the approach to the village. โSubject to funding becoming available, it may be possible to erect two Driver Feedback Signs in Doonaha,โ he added.
โAgain, subject to funding becoming available, it may be possible at a future date to construct additional footpaths in the village. This would narrow the carriageway width through the village and would serve as a traffic calming measure,โ Kenneally stated.
Doonaha has become โa very busy space, it is on the Wild Atlantic Way route,โ Cllr Murphy flagged. โWeโve done a piece of work on eastern side to it which has widened the road into it. It would be an ideal candidate for Active Travel funding,โ the Cathaoirleach of the West Clare MD continued.
Signs for the village have been a recent addition, Cllr Gabriel Keating (FG) observed. โMany people are going through Doonaha at the minute because it is on Wild Atlantic Wayโ. He agreed that Active Travel funding could aid the concerns.
