Levels of traffic in North Clare at the R460 cross and the L5244 are โnot suited for the road,โ a local representative has warned.
An appeal for a โlocal accessโ sign at the R460 cross and the L5244 โin the interest of health and safetyโ were requested by Cllr Joe Killeen (FF) plus signs pointing to Corofin and the Cliffs of Moher at a recent meeting of the West Clare Municipal District.
Senior executive engineer, Enda MacNamara confirmed that the possibility of additional directional signage at the junction would be reviewed.
Cllr Killeen detailed that the cross was en route from the Burren National Park to the motorway heading in the Gort direction, โit is not suitable for the volume of traffic using itโ. He described it as a pinch point but one that could provide plenty of learnings, โif we can solve one, we can solve more of themโ.
Roads like the ones referenced were โnot designed for a campervanโ. He believed the access was impacting the amount of traffic coming into Corofin.
His motion was seconded by Cllr Gabriel Keating (FG) with Cllr Cillian Murphy (FF) adding, โwe have a chance with roads like these to guide the visitor journey in another wayโ.
