A need to improve sight lines on an approach road to Scariff has been highlighted.

Options need to be explored by Clare County Council to improve safety measures exiting the L8132 onto the R352 heading towards Scariff, Cllr Joe Cooney (FG) proposed at a recent meeting of the Killaloe Municipal District.

Works to the junction are not included on this year’s roadworks programme, senior executive engineer Niamh Madden replied. “However, Clare County Council undertakes to assess this location and the outcome of this assessment will determine any required measures that need to be carried out. This assessment will also form the basis of any funding applications that may need to be progressed”.

A local landowner is willing to help the Council to try improve sight lines at the location, Cllr Cooney advised.

Surfacing on the road heading towards Mountshannon is in a good state, Cllr Pat Burke (FG) felt. “I think you had a motion on this a couple of years ago, action needs to be taken”.

Efforts of the community group to maintain the local area was praised by Cllr Pat Hayes (FF). “There is real merit in trying to cut back some of the hedging particularly if it is overgrown”.

Cooney informed the meeting that the junction further out the road was highlighted by him in a previous notice of motion, “hopefully the junction further out again will have improvements carried out,” he added to which Cllr Hayes quipped, “you’ll be in Whitegate soon”.
