Cross’ Digital Hub and the Ennis Digital Hub are to be officially opened today (Thursday) by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys (FG).

Minister Humphreys is to also visit the Vandeleur Walled Gardens in Kilrush, which has received significant Rural Regeneration and Development Funding (RRDF), the Clár funded Lissycasey playground for its official opening and Gnoc na Gaoithe Comhaltas Cultural Centre in Tulla, which also received RRDF funding to aid its development.

Digital hubs operated by DigiClare are currently open in Ennistymon, Feakle, Miltown Malbay, Kilrush, Carron, Kilkee, Corofin and Kilfenora. The addition of the Cross hub is of “huge significance”, Clare TD Joe Carey (FG) believed in helping the village in the Loop Head peninsula to become an option for remote working year-round.

Deputy Carey told The Clare Echo, “It is the second most westerly village in the county and while thousands of people visit the area during the summer months, it is important that we create the option for remote working in villages like Cross”.

He added, “The Cross Digital Hub opens the door to remote working for people who might be either from the area and want to stay there or to people who want to relocate to what is a stunning location, year-round. Equally, the opening of the Ennis Digital Hub is huge for Ennis. A town of its size cannot have enough options for people on the remote working front”.
