Clare’s spread of COVID-19 remains at low levels while an increase in its transmission has been recorded in the Killaloe local electoral area.

On Saturday, NPHET reported 408 new cases of the virus had been diagnosed nationally and that one more person had died as a result of COVID-19 bringing the country’s death toll since last March to 4,919.

Within Clare, the Shannon local electoral area accounts for the majority of cases in the county. In the past fortnight, there have been 30 confirmed cases in the Shannon LEA. The Ennis LEA has the next highest incidence rate and has reported 9 cases in the space of 14 days.

In the Killaloe LEA, seven cases of the virus have been diagnosed in the same time window with less than five in both the Ennistymon LEA and Kilrush LEA.

Sixteen less people are hospitalised with COVID-19 in the space of 24 hours. Information from 8am on Saturday has detailed that 110 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 33 are in ICU. 9 additional hospitalisations occurred in the past 24 hours.

As of May 6th, 1,746,912 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Ireland with 479,745 persons getting both doses.
