Commencement of the Summerhill section in this year’s roadworks programme is dependent on the completion dates of the Parnell Street public realm works.

Summerhill’s inclusion in the programme was welcomed by Cllr Paul Murphy (FG) at Tuesday’s meeting of the Ennis Municipal District. He asked that the work “be expedited in as prompt a manner as possible given the inconvenience that the residents have endured as a result of traffic detours in the area”.

Senior executive engineer, Eamon O’Dea confirmed the start date was “dependent on completion dates on elements of the Parnell Street Public Realm Works and on the Temporary COVID-19 Ennis Town Centre Mobility Management Plan”. He was hopeful works would proceed in 2021.

“We’re all in agreement that these works should be prioritised, these people have been very patient,” Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy (FF) commented. Residents of Summerhill have “put up with enough,” Cllr Pat Daly (FF) remarked as he referenced the traffic detours while works on Parnell St continue.

Recommencement of works on the Parnell St project was praised by Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG) who also voiced his satisfaction with Summerhill’s inclusion in the programme.

Communication with Summerhill residents has taken place in recent days, senior executive officer Leonore O’Neill confirmed. She noted that the section identified was from Cabey’s Lane to Wood Quay which is scheduled to be done during the summer.
