Water ponding has caused concern among residents of Willow Park and the Watery Rd in Ennis.

An appeal was lodged with Clare County Council by Cllr Mark Nestor (FF) to complete repair works in the Willow Park estate and Watery Rd “to address the issue of water ponding”.

Examinations on both the footpaths in Willow Rd and the surface water drainage network in the estate will be conducted, executive engineer Barry Conway confirmed. If deemed necessary, the footpaths will be included in the 2021 schedule of works.

Speaking at the January meeting of the Ennis Municipal District, Cllr Mark Nestor (FF) said residents were “very concerned” with ponding in the estate and “the state of footpaths”. Cracked footpaths have led to the water ponding, residents believe.

Support for the motion was echoed by Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG). He referred to previous comments regarding the quality of broadband in the area while he maintained the footpaths were in “a dangerous condition”.

Offering his expertise, senior engineer Eamon O’Dea noted that there is a small gap between the curb and the edge of the road, “some of this water is very thin-layered, it is between one or two millimetres deep so it can be difficult”.
