A community fundraiser has been launched to help a Clarecastle man get back on his feet following a recent accident.

As covered extensively by The Clare Echo, ex Fianna Fรกil councillor Bernard Hanrahan was lucky to survive a fire that burnt down his home on December 27th.

His bichon frise, Daisy woke him from his sleep and the pair managed to exit the household safely but all the contents from the house that was home for the Hanrahans for three generations went up in smoke. Since then, Bernard and Daisy have been staying with is daughter Rhona.

Bernardโ€™s friend Seamus Oโ€™Sullivan has now set up a GoFundMe page to help both Bernard and Daisy โ€œrebuild their livesโ€. The appeal was formed after several individuals expressed a desire to help do what they can to make life easier for the popular Clarecastle man.

Seamus stated, โ€œWhile Insurance will go some way towards replacing the physical infrastructure a lifetime of memories and mementos have been lost in the flamesโ€. He added, โ€œThis appeal will allow all his friends to rally round and show solidarity with a very generous community manโ€.

An โ€œinevitable shortfallโ€ is expected when it comes to the insurance, the Chairman of the Fianna Fรกil Ennis Comhairle Ceanntair said. The fundraiser will assist in replacing โ€œwhat was lost, in so far as it is possible to do soโ€.
