Clare’s 14 day incidence rate per 100k of the population is among the lowest in the country following confirmation of less than five new cases of COVID-19 in the county once again.

It is now the fifth day on the trot that less than five new cases of the virus have been recorded in the daily update for Co Clare. A total of 90 cases have been reported in the past fortnight. 75.7 is the 14 day incidence rate per 100k of the population in the county, which is the seventh lowest figure in the country.

Nationally, there are 335 new cases of COVID-19 located in Dublin (119), Kilkenny (29), Limerick (23), Donegal (20), Tipperary (19), Cork (19) with a further 106 split among 13 counties.

An additional three COVID-19 related deaths have been notified to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre .

A cautious approach has been recommended by the National Public Health Emergency Team to the Government regarding the easing of Level 5 restrictions.

Takeaway service only for restaurants and pubs during Christmas has been put forward by NPHET while hotels would be allowed open for guests. Considerations from NPHET also advise that two households could meet up from next week with this figure rising to three during over Christmas when travel restrictions are expected to be eased.

Government have given hope that restaurants and pubs may open in December. Enhanced safety measures are to be considered by the Cabinet’s COVID-19 sub-committee.

NPHET have stressed that this tactic cannot be carried out if plans exist to also ease restrictions on households visits.

A clearer picture is expected to be unveiled by An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin (FF) on Friday.
